Sometimes those consequences are upset & very vocal customers. That's a decision for each company to make for themselves, and decisions do have consequences. Some manufacturers do run the numbers and decide that it's more cost effective to let the occasional lemon get out than pay for perfect QC on every single item shipped. I'd rather lose the time and materials than ship a sub-standard product. Some custom parts I'll remake 2 or 3 times because something about it isn't up to my standards. Which is why I'll take the extra time to re-make parts, re-do finishes, whatever I need to do to ensure that I don't see such posts about my company. If I turned out a shitty product, I would expect to find posts about it online. I submit that not posting publicly about a product problem is a courtesy to the manufacturer, but nobody owes that discretion. View QuoteWhen we manufacture and sell products & services, we subject ourselves to the buying public's scrutiny. I suppose if its ok to shoot as is I'll just try and not let my OCD kick in everytime I look at it. Right now I can honestly say this is first time I've been disappointed with a Dead Air product at least visually. Also I've just mounted and test fit my Sandman K and Pyro but have not shot it yet. Figured I'd maybe give Todd a chance to give his thoughts first if he sees this thread soon. ![]() I have not contacted their customer service dept yet. Just wondering if anyone else that has bought these new micro brakes have noticed these same observations or not. I was honestly shocked when I saw the deformed metal.Īgain not the best pictures and maybe I'll try in an outdoor setting or get a hold of a much better camera but for now hopefully these convey enough of what I'm to attempt to describe here. I spotted it immediately after taking the tool away to look and make sure the brake was timed with the TDC of the rest of the upper. I timed them all the same, applied roughly the same torque and with this new brake if you can make out in the pictures the wrench flat edges deformed a bit from being wrenched. Compared to the wrench flats on my other muzzle devices I didn't have nearly as much play in the wrench as I had with this muzzle device. Maybe they had this same sharp lip at first when new and have since rounded off a bit from and this is a question really for Todd or the customer service guys but notice in my pictures where the wrench flats are that they appear to be machined a little off and were definitely not square. Again may be nothing to worry about but when I compare it to my other examples I have it just looks wrong to me. Another visual observation I noticed is right before the taper on my 3 older muzzle devices the transition to the taper area is more rounded and smooth where on this new micro brake there is an obvious 90 degree lip and then the taper starts. This might be totally fine assuming the taper is fully engaged but it feels akward to me since I've gotten used to it rotating more on all the other muzzle devices. With this new micro brake both the Sandman K and Pyros detent tabs start to engage around the 3 o clock mark and wind up stopping at the 4 o clock mark. With those muzzle devices the tab on the detent plate rotates to about 6 o clock on all 3 before starting to engage the taper and winds up stopping at approx 7 o clock. ![]() I wonder if these micro brakes were from the old or the new manufacturing process or they just don't bother to put emphasis on polishing out the tool marks like they used to?Īlso another observation I noticed with my Sandman K and Pyro is that it hits the taper at a different spot when compared to my other 3 muzzle devices. With all the tool marks I'm surprised this got past Q/C however Todd has recently made it clear that they severed ties with their old manufacturing partner and have migrated over to a new one. I played hell trying to photograph this thing and I suppose maybe I'll have to wait till tommorow and retry in day light as the indoor lighting here at the house plus my mediocore camera phone didn't want to play nicely. Compared to the 3 muzzle devices I currently have on hand here it honestly looks shit by comparison. Well right off the bat as soon as I opened up the package from Hansohn and took a look at it I was extremely disappointed with the tool marks all over this thing. I just got the new Dead Air micro brake from Hansohn in 1/2x28 yesterday and decided I was going to try it on my 10.5in pistol since I had migrated the flash hider it currently had over to my new 18 in rifle I just put together to test it out the other day. Scroll down the thread to the posting where Todd Magee has responded and resolved this issue.
